Thinking about transferring to a new fostering agency?
It can feel like a big step, but we make the process simple and will support you every step of the way.
There are many reasons you might consider changing agency – perhaps you need different levels of support, or placements aren’t being matched to your skills. We’re happy to discuss how we can do things differently for you.
Your first step is easy: give us a call on 01325 978040 or email us.
At First for Fostering, we offer excellent support for our foster carers. Being a smaller agency means we can provide a genuine family feel and a strong sense of community. We get to know all our fostering families and work alongside them in a collaborative, supportive way. With regular peer support groups, social events, and training, you’ll quickly feel part of our agency.
Our training packages are diverse, and as an experienced foster carer, we value all the skills and experience you bring.

The transfer process may vary slightly depending upon which Fostering Agency or Local Authority you are currently with.
After you have made your decision and let us know that you would like to transfer, we will start undertaking all the relevant checks – including a reference from your current Local Authority or Fostering Agency.
When we carry out your assessment, we will take into account all the experience you’ve already had and of course all the training you will have already completed. Where possible we will utilise some of the work already undertaken in your first assessment (depending of course on how long ago it was completed).
We will still ask you to attend the Skills to Foster preparatory course, depending upon how long ago you completed it; we may not require you to attend the whole course again.

As you will know the assessment is a joint piece of work between you, your family and your Supervising Social Worker. We promise we will get things moving for you as soon as possible and without delay. The process, from you requesting to transfer, should be completed within a matter of a few months.

It is possible for you to transfer to us while you have a child/ children in your care. We will ensure that this is in the best interests of you and the child/ children you are caring for. We will take into account the needs of the child/ children you have, and we will make sure that the process of transferring is entirely child focused.
You will need to let your current Fostering Agency and the Local Authority know that you wish to move. In turn the Local Authority will make your foster child/ children’s Independent Reviewing Officer aware. All those involved will work to ensure that you, and the children you are caring for, are supported throughout the transition.
Moving agencies isn’t as daunting or time consuming as you might imagine… give us a call to find out how we can support you on your fostering journey.
Below is the Fostering Network transfer protocol. A link to the protocol is also 'HERE'.
