First for Fostering was established late 2019. We are a small, community based, Independent Fostering Agency located in Darlington covering; Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, North & South Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, Sunderland, North Yorkshire and the surrounding villages and towns.
Our primary aim is to assess, recruit and train foster carers who can provide stable, nurturing and therapeutic placements for local children. We recognise the skill, dedication and professionalism of our foster carers and as such we aim to provide excellent one to one support, peer support, training opportunities, allowances and fees.
We work in a therapeutic way, utilising models of therapeutic parenting and offering this as a grounding for our foster carers. The Secure Base Model underpins our assessment process and continued support for foster carers, children and young people. We ensure our foster carers receive training in these areas so we can work together.
As an agency we are reflective, inclusive and aspirational for our foster carers and the children and young people they care for. We are passionate advocates for our foster carers, their families and our children and young people.
Our Statement of Purpose has been written in accordance with the appropriate and relevant regulations, statutory guidance, and the National Minimum Standards, including:
* The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011, Regulations 3 and 4
* The Children Act 1989 Guidance & Regulations Volume 4: Fostering Services (2011)
* Fostering Services National Minimum Standards (2011); Standard 16
* The Care Planning Placement and Case Reviews and Fostering services (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2013 govern the work of fostering providers throughout England.
This Statement of Purpose is reviewed and updated on a regular basis, a minimum of every twelve months.
As part of the regulatory requirement, a copy of the Statement of Purpose will be provided to the Chief Inspector within Ofsted.
The document is also available to all First for Fostering staff, panel members, consultants, placing authorities, child or young person placed or considered for placement, foster carers, prospective foster carers and parents of children placed or being considered for placement.
