Eligibility To Foster

Am I too old or young?

Age to be a foster carer

You must be 21 to be approved as a foster carer. There is no upper age limit for foster carers!

Do I need a spare room?

Do I need a spare bedroom to foster

You will need to have a spare bedroom and be living in stable accommodation. You can be in rented accommodation or own your own home.

Do I need experience of working with children?

If you have experience of working with children that can be a great help. However, it is not essential. We will provide you with the training and support which will equip you to foster.

Is it okay if I have my own children?

Yes, lots of foster carers foster alongside raising their own children. Your own children will be included in the assessment process and we will look at what ages of children might fit best in your family.

Can I work and be a foster carer?

Can I work and be a fsoter carer

We expect our foster carers to be able to prioritise the children they foster, and this is why we pay such competitive rates of pay. Being a foster carer can be a full-time career. We can discuss this with you in more detail if you call us for a chat.

You can continue to work if your job is suitably flexible and you are able to work around the needs of any children we place with you.

Can I be a single carer?

Can single people foster

You can be single, married or living with your partner.  If you are married or living with your partner you will be assessed as a couple.

Fostering diversity

At First for Fostering we are keen to recruit a diverse range of foster carers in order to match the diverse range of needs and backgrounds of the children we care for.

We welcome applications from people of all religious and cultural backgrounds.

We encourage applications from those who identify as LGBTQ+.

We encourage applications from people with disabilities.
